If any book deserves a happy ending, it’s “A Friendly Life”, the new autobiography of Friendly Ice Cream Corp. co-founder S. Prestley Blake.
The chain, which he founded with his brother Curtis L. Blake in 1935, is of course famous for the “Happy Ending” section of its menus featuring all those tempting sundaes.
“The thing I want people to take away from this book is the need for business ethics,” Blake said recently in a phone interview. “The most important thing is honesty.”
Friendly Ice Cream Corp. is now a vertically integrated restaurant company serving signature sandwiches, entrees and ice cream desserts with system-wide sales of $700 million and distribution through more than 6,500 retail locations. There are more than 500 Friendly’s restaurants.
