Cranberry Township, PA (RestaurantNews.com) It’s lunchtime and a search is on for an Italian-style sandwich. Look no further than Pino Gelato Café, located in the Oak Tree Place shopping center, which has rolled out a new menu to mark its six-month anniversary.
“After people have tasted our gelato, they suggested we strengthen our Italian theme by offering Italian-style sandwiches,” said proprietors Ron and Kim Kachman.
Remaining on the menu is a pizza cone sandwich with layers of red sauce, mozzarella & pepperoni, an item that was featured on the Food Network.
Pino Gelato Café also serves soups – Wedding, Tomato Basil Bisque, Pasta Fagioli, Vegetable Bisque and Corn Chowder. A click on Facebook / Pino Gelato Café Cranberry will show the soup of the day.
Since June, the bright, cheerful café has brought genuine Italian gelato recipes and a unique experience to Cranberry by offering 24 gelato flavors on a menu that changes daily.
Gelato, meaning “ice cream” in Italian, comes in many flavors and is made with milk. Recipes use the freshest ingredients with no artificial flavorings or added chemicals. While creamy, rich and full of distinct flavor, the gelato is much lower in fat, cholesterol and calories than traditional American ice cream. Also served is sorbetto (sorbet) in fruity flavors.
The café offers freshly roasted coffees from Pittsburgh-based LaPrima Espresso Co.
“We like to support Pittsburgh-area companies as much as we can,” said Ron.
Cranberry was selected for the cafe’s location because it has become one of the top job-growth markets in the United States. The influx of businesses is illustrated by the move to the area by Mine Safety Appliance Co., hiring by Westinghouse Electric Co., growth at BPL Global, Ltd., the popularity the Regional Learning Alliance Center, and construction underway for homes like the Venango Trails development, apartments in the Park Place development, offices, retail outlets, manufacturing facilities and a hotel.
Pino Gelato Café is located in the Oak Tree Place shopping center, 20000 Route 19, Cranberry Township, located between Aspen Dental and Five Guys Burgers and Fries.
Hours are Monday-Thursday 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Friday 11:00 am to 10:00 pm; Saturday Noon to 10:00 pm; and Sunday Noon to 9 pm.
